KBA15-00-002 - Error Connecting to SQL During Spindle Requisitions Setup: Missing "SQL Server Native Client 11.0" Driver

Modified on Thu, 18 Sep at 9:18 AM

Introduction

This article provides steps to resolve a connection error during the configuration of Spindle Requisitions caused by a missing ODBC driver.

When attempting to configure Spindle Requisitions to connect to a native SQL Server instance, the process fails with a connection error.

Cause

This error occurs when the required ODBC driver, "SQL Server Native Client 11.0", is not installed on the server where Spindle Requisitions is being installed.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to install the correct driver and resolve the issue.

Step 1: Verify the Driver is Missing

On the server, open the ODBC Data Source Administrator:

Press Windows Key + R, type odbcad32.exe, and press Enter.

Alternatively, navigate through Control Panel > Administrative Tools.

Click the Drivers tab.

Scroll through the list and look for SQL Server Native Client 11.0.

If it is not present, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Install the Driver

Download: sqlncli.msi installer from the KBA below

Important: You must have administrative permissions on the server to install this driver.

Install: Run the downloaded sqlncli.msi file and follow the on-screen installation wizard.

Step 3: Confirm the Installation

Return to the ODBC Data Source Administrator (as highlighted in Step 1).

Confirm that SQL Server Native Client 11.0 now appears in the list of drivers.

If the driver does not appear immediately, try rebooting the server and checking again.

Once the driver is confirmed to be installed, you may resume the Spindle Requisitions installation. The software should now be able to connect to the SQL Server instance.
