KBA-01-02-047 - The Chrome Extension does not show for local PDF files

Modified on Tue, 23 Aug, 2022 at 10:12 AM

Introduction

The Draycir Spindle Document Distribution Chrome Extension allows PDF documents to be processed by Spindle Document Distribution directly from the Chrome browser.

Applies to

  • Spindle Document Distribution Standalone v10.1 and above
  • Spindle Document Management v10.1 and above
  • Spindle Document Distribution Cloud v10.1 and above
  • Google Chrome
    • Derivatives of Google Chrome, such as MS Edge, Chromium etc may also work, but compatibility is not guaranteed.

Issue

When a PDF document is displayed in the Chrome browser's native PDF viewer (note: NOT using Adobe Reader), the Extension allows the user to send the PDF to Spindle Pro Auto:

By default the extension will only be visible on documents on the web (ie using http/https).  If the button is not visible, check whether the file is held locally in the file system.

You can grant the extension access by clicking the jigsaw piece icon  and choosing Manage Extensions:

Under Spindle Document Distribution, click Details:

Scroll down and enable the option to "Allow access to file URLs"

With this option enabled, local PDF files opened in Chrome can also be processed:
