KBA-12-03-001 Exchange Online to retire Basic auth for Client Submission (SMTP AUTH) with Spindle Report Scheduler

Modified on Tue, 27 Jan at 10:31 AM

Introduction

Microsoft are retiring Basic Authentication for Client Submission (SMTP Auth) for all Exchange online endpoints, which will affect how customers use their Spindle Report Scheduler.

To identify if your customer will be affected you can open Spindle Report Scheduler Tools and checking the "Server Name" field, if the below are in use the customer will be affected:

smtp.office365.com

smtp-legacy.office365.com

Any other server names should not be affected by this change.

Solution

To continue the use of Spindle Report Scheduler, we recommend that the customer sign up for a free Mailjet account, the process for setting this up can be found here.

There are other SMTP providers which can be used, however in these cases we would advise following their advise for setup and configuration.

Configuring Spindle Report Scheduler Tools

Now that we have all the details, we can now configure Spindle Report Scheduler Tools. To do this, connect to the sage server and open the Spindle Report Scheduler Tools.exe.

Once open we can fill out the tools in the following way:

  • SMTP Server: in-v3.mailjet.com
  • Port: 587 (default)
  • Use SSL: ticked/yes
  • SMTP Login Name: API key provided in Mailjet
  • Password: Secret Key provided in Mailjet (please note the implications in resetting this if needed, detailed above)
  • From Email Address: The same email address that was set up as the Sender Address in Mailjet (note: this must match, otherwise there will be nothing sent out, and there will not be an error in the logs to signify it isn’t being sent)
  • Reply To Email Address: Same as above
  • Report Admin Email Address: The email the customer wants licence reminders to
  • Licence Key: The site’s licence key provided by Draycir

After this we it is best to set up a test scheduled report and ensure that this is working and sending as expected. If there are any issues encountered, please contact Draycir Support at support@draycir.com. If this is the case, it is best to provide access to both the Mailjet portal and the Spindle Report Scheduler Tools to ensure we can help efficiently.
