Introduction

This guide contains steps to upgrade older versions of Spindle Professional or Spindle Document Distribution Standalone to the latest release of Spindle Document Distribution Standalone.

Applicable Versions

• Spindle Document Distribution Standalone v8
• Spindle Document Distribution Standalone v9
• Spindle Document Distribution Standalone v10

Resolution

Spindle Document Distribution Standalone can be installed in place over the top of Spindle Professional or any earlier release of Spindle Document Distribution.

Licence considerations

If you are upgrading from:

• Spindle Document Distribution v8.x onwards, the licence key remains the same up to v10.x
• Any version of Spindle Professional, you will need an updated licence key, which can be obtained by emailing licences@draycir.com

Method

1. Open Spindle Professional Tools or Spindle Document Distribution Tools and navigate to User Settings > Options. Highlight the path displayed and right-click > copy. Paste this path into Windows Explorer to be displayed with the parent directory of the SpindlePro folder.

2. Right-click on the SpindlePro folder and Send to > Compressed (zip) folder. You've now taken a backup of the SpindlePro folder.

3. Ensure you have administrator privileges and run the Spindle Document Distribution installer over the existing installation

4. Once the installer has finished, open Spindle Document Distribution Tools. You will now be prompted to upgrade the database.

Notes

• Depending on the age of the product you have upgraded from, the devices in the siftware may have changed such that the User Setup Wizard is displayed. If you see this, complete the wizard.
• Upgrading the database will render other users of Spindle Document Distribution unable to use the software until they've been upgraded also. Proceed with the database upgrade and let it run.
• If you have been provided with an updated licence key, enter it into Spinde Document DIstribution Tools, using the key icon on the toolbar.
• If you need a new licence key to use with Spindle Document Distribution, it can be obtained from the Draycir licence team by emailing licences@draycir.com.
