Introduction

As of April 1st 2020 Spindle Professional will no longer be supported. The upgrade path is determined by the accounting / ERP software being used.

Sage 200 users

Spindle Professional 2009, 2012, and v6 customers, as well as any customer running Spindle Document Capture v1.x should upgrade to the current release of Spindle Document Management (Upgrade path A below).

Other ERP users

Spindle Professional 2009, 2012, and v6 customers should upgrade to the current release of Spindle Document Distribution (Upgrade path B below).

Upgrade process

A) Spindle Professional to Spindle Document Management

If the customer is running Spindle Document Capture v1.x in addition to Spindle Professional then 

- Back up a) the existing SpindlePro folder, b) the Spindle Document Capture data files located in C:\ProgramData\Draycir and c) the Draycir.SDC SQL database.

- Run the Spindle Document Management Server installer over the top of the existing installation and both SDC v1 and Spindle Professional will be upgraded to the new version of Spindle Document Management Server.

- Update the Spindle Document Distribution database using the Database update utility installed to Program Files (x86)\Draycir\Spindle Document Distribution Server

- Migrate the data in the Draycir.SDC database, using Spindle Document Management Server Administration.

- Run the Spindle Document Management Client installer on the server (for testing/troubleshooting purposes) and also on any client PCs. Again this installer will upgrade in place any version of Spindle Professional 2009, 2012 or v6.


If the customer is not running SDC v1.x in addition to Spindle Professional then

- Back up the existing SpindlePro folder.

- Confirm the system requirements for Spindle Document Management - SQL server, IIS enabled on server etc. see https://draycir.freshdesk.com/a/solutions/articles/6000158354 for full details.

- Run the Spindle Document Management Server installer.

- Update the Spindle Document Distribution database using the Database update utility installed to Program Files (x86)\Draycir\Spindle Document Distribution Server. 

- Create the Draycir.SDC database, using Spindle Document Management Server Administration.

- Run the Spindle Document Management Client installer on the server (for testing/troubleshooting purposes) and also on any client PCs. Again this installer will upgrade in place any version of Spindle Professional 2009, 2012 or v6.


B) Spindle Professional to Spindle Document Distribution

- Back up the existing SpindlePro folder located in the shared location.

- Run the latest Spindle Document Distribution standalone over the top of any copies of Spindle Professional at the customer site.

On first launch of the new version of the software you will be prompted to update the shared database. Once this database has been updated, all earlier versions of Spindle Professional will no longer function until they too have been upgraded.


Licensing

Licensing for Spindle Document Distribution Standalone functions in the same way as Spindle Professional. You will require a new licence key from Draycir, which can be requested by email to licences@draycir.com For Gold support customers there is no cost for the licence. For other customers please contact your business partner for details.


Licensing for Spindle Document Management is based around named Windows user identities. You will require a new licence key from Draycir, which can be requested by email to licences@draycir.com For Gold support customers there is no cost for the licence. For other customers please contact your business partner for details.
