Introduction

When installing Spindle Professional, the following error is displayed:

This error indicates that the installer cannot find the files C:\Windows\inf\ntprint.inf and UNIDRV.DLL which are part of the universal printer driver subsystem. Typically this occurs when a PC has been upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows XP, although the issue may manifest in other circumstances.

Resolution

Locate the file ntprint.inf and copy it to the folder C:\windows\inf.

A copy of this file may reside in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ntprint.inf_<Processor type>-<hex code>.

If you cannot locate the file on the PC, you may need to copy it from another machine running the same version of Windows.

If the file does not exist on the machine, locate the file on another machine running the same version of windows and copy it to the target PC. Re-run the installer. 

While the installer is running you may also be asked to locate the file UNIDRV.DLL, if so, search for this file in Windows Explorer or File Explorer and then browse to the file in the installer dialog. You may be asked for up to five additional files, simply repeat the above for each file.
