Spindle Document Management v7.01 and v7.02, when installing to Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2

Issue

During installation of Spindle Document Distribution on Windows Server 2012 or Server 2012 R2, you may see the following error

Cause

The error is caused by a missing or failed Microsoft Windows update, which is preventing the required Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable from installing correctly. Checking the Windows update history does not necessarily show any failed updates.

Resolution

Please note that the resolution to apply depends on the version of Windows

For Windows Server 2012

  • Open Windows' "Programs & Features" control panel, locate the Visual C++ 2015 redistributable (x86) in the list and select "repair"
  • If the issue still persists on opening Spindle Document Distribution, manually install MS update KB2999226 from https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2999226 ensuring you select the download labelled "All supported x64-based versions of Windows Server 2012"

For Windows Server 2012 R2

  • Install KB2919442 from https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2919442 ensuring that you select the download labelled "All supported x64-based versions of Windows Server 2012 R2"
  • Install KB2919355 from https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2919355 ensuring you select the download for x64 WIndows Server 2012 R2. WARNING: a reboot may be necessary following this update. 
  • Install Spindle Document Management Server or Client 
  • If the Spindle Document Management installer displays an error installing the redistributable at this point, first complete the Spindle Document Management installation, then: 
  • Open Windows' "Programs & Features" control panel, locate the Visual C++ 2015 redistributable (x86) in the list and select "repair"
