Introduction

When running Spindle Document Distribution in Windows 11 22H2 and later, you may find that the document does not align correctly with the backdrop form, or that data is missing. This is typically a symptom of a mismatch between the paper size of the document and the paper size used by the Spindle Document Distribution printer driver.

Spindle Document Distribution running on WIndows 11 22H2 and later.

Identifying if you are affected

In Windows 11 21H2, and Windows 10 and earlier, the default printer dialog is this :

In Windows 11 22H2 and later it is this:

If you see the former print dialog, this article does not apply. If you are experiencing issues with Spindle Document Distribution then please contact Draycir Support.

If you see the later dialog then this aricle will apply.

In addition. if you open Printing Preferences you cannot change the Paper size from the one set at installation.

The paper size is fixed at time of install by respecting the regional settings of Windows. if this is set to UK then it will be at A4, if US then Letter. This affects applications that use the default Windows Printer dialog. "Quick Prints" do not seem to be affected.

Workaround

If all documents need to be on A4, or all documents need to be set to US Letter, we can set the default paper size using the Region settings. In the following example below I want all documents to be A4, so I need to set the language to use UK settings instead of US settings.

Set all region Settings to UK, fully remove US settings

Open Start and type "Region" to open the Settings app :

If the required localisation is not present, click Add a language.

Scroll down and click Administrative language Settings

Ensure that the correct language is set here, then switch to the Administrative tab:

Click Copy Settings and ensure that all entries in this window match. If you see any entries for (in this example) United States, then check the boxes at the bottom of the window to copy current user settings to the Welcome Screen and for new accounts. Click OK and if youhave made any changes you will be asked if you want to restart, click Later in this dialog.

Next set the language for non-Unicode progams by clicking Change System Locale:

Again if you make any changes here you will be prompted to restart, once more, click Later.

Uninstall Spindle Document Distribution

Open Programs and Features from the Control Panel (or type appwiz.cpl at the start menu)

Select Spindle Document Distribution or Spindle Document Management Client (as applicable) and uninstall:

Restart the PC

With the languages set correctly and Spindle Document Distribution removed, reboot the PC. This will apply the changes we made to the languages.

Install Spindle Document Distribution

Install Spindle Document Distribution or Spindle Document Management Client, the drivers will now detect the paper size as A4.
