KBA-02-03-004 - Displaying WIA-Driver Devices in SDC

Modified on Fri, 22 Nov, 2024 at 10:27 AM

Introduction

Spindle Document Capture hides drivers beginning with WIA. WIA stands for Windows Image Acquisition. Quoting from Wikipedia, WIA is a proprietary Microsoft driver model and application programming interface (API) for Microsoft Windows Me and later Windows operating systems that enables graphics software to communicate with imaging hardware such as scanners, digital cameras and Digital Video-equipment.

Spindle Document Capture hides WIA drivers as the API for TWAIN allows for better control over the scanner interface. To display WIA driver-enabled devices in the Pending Tray/Document Portal and other areas, a registry key needs to be modified.

Versions Applicable

  • SDC 1.5 and newer

Solution

1. Open up the registry editor, Start > Run > Regedit.exe

2. Navigate to the following path, [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Draycir\Spindle Document Capture\Client\Twain]

If this key/value pair is not present, you will need to create the key named TWAIN, and inside, add a String value (Reg_sz) with a name of "WIAPrefixFilter" and data of "X":

3. Change the value of the item named WIAPrefixFilter to X.
